Year in Review: 2022

Construction of the 183 North Mobility Project has been moving forward in earnest since the official groundbreaking one year ago.

Improvements coming as a part of the project include increased mobility with both tolled and non-tolled lane additions on US 183 between SH 45 and MoPac, easier connections between US 183 and MoPac, extensive pedestrian improvements along the corridor adding or rehabilitating approximately 11 miles of newly ADA-compliant sidewalks, much-needed connections to ensure a network of continuous bike lanes, aesthetic enhancements and technological traffic monitoring upgrades to the area.

2022 In Review

Since the 183 North Mobility Project is a design-build project, much of the work in early to mid-2022 was centered on final design and obtaining permits that are required for construction activities. Over the spring and early summer of 2022, work focused on installation of high mast lighting along US 183, construction of median access points and pavement grinding on the US 183 general-purpose lanes. Groundwork for the express lanes, driveways, and sidewalks reconstruction began in late 2022 and will go into 2023. The team was also busy going out in the community sharing project info, meeting with business owners along the corridor and hosting fun events. Read all about it in our Community Outreach section here.

Looking Ahead in 2023

In 2023 the project construction work will include structure work/ bridge widening, work on the direct connector between US 183 and MoPac, as well as the collector distributor road along MoPac and pavement work in the center median. And we’re excited to be planning more events in the community coming soon! Be sure to keep an eye on our Upcoming Events.

Annual Project Update Event

In recognition of passing the one year mark since the 183 North Mobility Project began, we hosted a project update meeting for the community. We shared about the 183 North Mobility Project and what progress was made in 2022. We also gave a look ahead to what is next in 2023. The public had an opportunity to meet the project’s contractor, Great Hills Constructors and ask any questions they had about the improvements coming to Northwest Austin. If you missed the event, you can view the recording by clicking on the button to the right.
